Strength Under Pressure

How weathering the storm brings growth

Last year, we talked about weathering the storm. Together, we braced ourselves personally, professionally, and as a community. We asked whether we’d be the tree still standing when the winds died down.

And here we are. But here’s what we’ve learned about storms: surviving them isn’t the end of the story. It’s the beginning.

Deep in the Sierra Nevada, the giant sequoia holds its cones closed for years and sometimes decades. The seeds inside are viable, ready, and waiting. However, they won’t germinate without fire. It takes the heat, the pressure, the very thing that seems most destructive, to crack the cone open and release what was there all along. In the ash-cleared ground left behind, with more light than ever before, those seeds grow into the largest trees on earth.

That’s where we are right now. The storms we’ve faced in our communities, our work, and our lives didn’t break us. But they changed us. They sharpened our focus, deepened our connections, and revealed something worth paying attention to: what’s inside us is stronger than we knew.

This year’s program, “Strength Under Pressure: How Weathering the Storm Brings Growth,” is about that next chapter. Not just survival, but what blooms because of the fire. We’ll explore how adversity builds capacity, how pressure forges leaders, and how communities like ours grow deeper roots precisely because of what they’ve endured.

The storm revealed what we’re made of. Now let’s grow.

Award Nominations

Nominate a Deserving Member

Each year during the Education Conference, ITA recognizes four dedicated members who have demonstrated accomplishments during the past year. Awards are presented during the Awards Dinner.

Trustee of the Year

The Harold ‘Gene’ Stofer award

Board Member of the Year

The Charles Bogden Memorial award

Township of the Year

Recognizing an outstanding township

Employee of the Year

Recognizing an outstanding township employee

Nominations will be accepted until August 31, 2026; anything received after that date will not be considered for the 2026 awards presentation. Awards are presented during the Awards Dinner, and we generally do not disclose winners ahead of time.

ITA is proud of the many contributions its men and women have made to their communities and for the betterment of township government as a whole. We encourage you to help us recognize those members who deserve to be thanked by nominating them for an appropriate award.

The committee will consider accomplishments within their township/community at-large, as well as letters of support, news articles, and similar materials. The award is bestowed not only based on successfully fulfilling the duties of the office (those things we “must do”), but on the merit of going above and beyond — from what is expected to that which is exceptional. Weight is also given for township officers who have shown leadership abilities and who work to develop leaders within their own community.

Relevant information to consider attaching: community involvement (boards, affiliations, formal occupation), letters of support, news clippings, and other supporting documents that may enhance your nominee. Please be sure to describe in detail why you believe this person or township deserves this prestigious award.

Nominations will be held for consideration for two years.

How to Nominate

Download the nomination form, print it, and mail it with all attachments to the ITA office.

The form opens in a new tab. If the print box does not appear on its own, right-click anywhere on the form and choose Print — or press Ctrl + P on Windows or Cmd + P on a Mac.
